Lockerbie Park Sale Report 2020

The Annual sale of Park type North Country Cheviot Sheep took place at Lockerbie Auction on Wednesday 16th September, due to current Covid-19 restrictions no show was held prior to the sale but that didn’t stop the showstopping prices….A top price of £6500 was reached twice on the day, firstly by Lot 57 Smerlie Archie, a Smerlie Vince sired ram out of a homebred ewe from Andrew Polson’s flock, he was purchased in a half share between Daisy Williams, Muddy Plox & Katy Davies & Dafydd Owen, Pen-Y-Bont. Second to achieve this was Lot 162 Gilston Abrakadabra, sired by Carruthers W 06510 & out of a homebred ewe he travels north to join the Wester flock of George Cormack.

The Hightae flock of Jennifer Cowan received the next highest price of £5500 for Lot 136 Hightae A 00012, sired by Synton Ring Master he joins the Philiphaugh Flock.
A great run of sheep from J Runciman & Son, Allanshaws reached £5200 for Lot 76 Allanshaws Alabama, sired by Gilston Wombat & out of a Allanshaws Ewe by Pengroes Rob Roy he goes home to the Broomhillbank flock of R Strawhorn. Two more from the same good home achieved £2600 & £2500, Lot 74 Allanshaws Aristrocrat sired by Jethart Xtra Special & Lot 69 Allanshaws Ammarilo sired by Synton Vital Spark.
A second at £5200 came from the Overacres pen of Peter Hedley, Lot 139 Overacres Alert sired by Broomhillbank Wee Toronto heads north to join the JS Baillie & Co, Sebay.

Next were two at £4500, firstly Lot 117 Carruthers A 08130 a Hownam Grange Woodpecker sired shearling first in the ring from CR Graham, Carruthers, he joins the Allanshaws flock of J Runciman & Sons, seconad at the same money was Lot 211 Sebay Abassador sired by Harestone Woohoo, having already travelled from Orkney he heads further south to Derbyshire to join Sam Pilkington’s Beardale flock.

In total 22 rams sold to £2000 & above & a further 15 at £1500 – £2000, the very best of breeding was well sort after on the day. Commercial rams also sold well with plenty of buyers looking for strong rams to take home.

Females

The North Country Cheviot Park type females were in strong demand, with buyers from all areas of the country as far south as Cornwall, Northern Ireland, Wales & throughout Scotland looking for quality females of all ages.
Topping the sale was a ewe lamb from Scott Davies, Synton flock, by the Hightae XTC which was purchased from Lockerbie in 2019 for £5000 she sold for £1000 & heads to Lanarkshire with Mr A Jackson, Woodyett farm.
From the same good home came the top price gimmers sired by Philphaugh Wrangler, Wandylaw Talent & Overacres Vannistilroy sold as a pen of three for £850 each, they head to Northern Ireland to join the Benrafton flock of AJ & NA Robinson.
Draft ewes sold to £200 for a single ewe from Jim Thomson’s Kelso flock, she joins the Battle Hill flock of Dowson & Sartin, Barnard Castle.

180 Rams sold (15 rams more than 2019) averaged £1021.17 (+£38.99)
68 Draft Ewes (+21) averaged £146 (+£6.56)
355 Gimmers (+102) averaged £253.92 (+£7.29)
159 Ewe Lambs (+68) averaged £205.19 (+£58.13)
